How much has been tested in people?

A study can raise hope without giving a dependable answer. Ask what was tested, how it was compared and what remains unknown.

The human evidence is small

Medicine review is handled by FDA, a US agency.

Its review checked September 28, 2026 found five human BPC-157 studies, with about 80 people receiving the substance in total.

Only two used a comparison group. Those two were described in short meeting reports; neither had a full journal article explaining the study in detail.

A comparison group gives researchers something to compare the treatment group with. Without it, an improvement has more than one possible explanation.

Improvement alone does not identify the cause

The small knee and bladder reports described improvement, but had no comparison group to show that BPC-157 caused it.

Ask whether the study measured the change in a clear way. Ask whether its patients had the same problem you have.

A planned trial is not an answer

At September 28, 2026, a muscle-injury study in China that compares treatments had no results. A US shoulder-surgery study had yet to begin.

A study register records what researchers plan to do, whether a study has started or finished, and any results posted. A plan alone does not show that a treatment works.

Ask how the uncertainty changes the choice

Ask what care options have evidence for your problem. Ask the clinician to explain what is known, what is hoped for and how those differ.

It is fine to leave the visit with the choice still open.

Why this answer?

Keep the limits in view

The five-study count includes two studies described in short meeting reports. Neither had a full journal article available at the check. A study listed without results does not add proof of benefit.
